Falcon Cranes
Discover how mobile BESS was deployed together with power management, to help Falcon Cranes reach new heights in its carbon-cutting ambitions.
Sizewell C is one of the UK’s most significant nuclear infrastructure projects, and needed support during construction. With limited grid access, mobile BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) units were a suitable choice.
Larger projects more than ever need risks to be minimised, to avoid unwanted cost. At Sizewell C, construction and efficiency had to continue without interruptions. Reducing the carbon footprint was also high on the agenda.
Through its phases of construction, the site at Sizewell C required energy to run welfare cabins followed by temporary power for batching plants (concrete plants) on site. The Zenobē team devised a power deployment plan that matched project phases.
For a client that was focused on its net zero construction ambitions, using emission-free power units to massively reduce diesel generator use was a step in the right direction.
The setup – a pair of 100kW/150kWh mobile BESS, paired with a 60kVA generator – together delivered a higher level of fuel efficiency that would otherwise be achieved by diesel generators alone.
Prior reliance on diesel generators had led to high fuel use, particularly at low load conditions, which was inefficient and costly.
Select Plant Hire could reduce overheads for its client Laing O’Rourke through the smart use of power. Optimised power schedules and 24/7 monitoring ensured power output matched demand closely – saving money, and CO2.
Want to know how much you could save? Zenobē uses its experience with power management to create optimised power plans for clients. Let’s explore the options, so you can see power saving models first-hand.
