Discover how mobile BESS was deployed together with power management, to help Falcon Cranes reach new heights in its carbon-cutting ambitions.
Select Plant Hire and Laing O’Rourke, working for Equinix, wanted to find ways to cut carbon on site, at the construction of a major data centre facility. The Slough Trading Estate, known for its high density of data centres, sets a high bar for energy efficiency and low-carbon construction.
To meet these demands, Zenobē supplied two 100kW/150kWh battery systems to power essential site operations.
Construction brands are setting themselves ambitious targets, aiming to run emission-free sites and reduced-impact operations. But how can this be achieved, when energy is required to run machinery, support equiment – in fact, everything?
The solution is industrial grade, robust battery technology. Mobile BESS units can support a range of loads, from large and dynamic peak currents, to low and continuous draw. They’re able to control intermittent or otherwise inefficient generation sources, and ensure clean, reliable and efficient operations.
This makes them equally useful for powering tower cranes, needing peaks of large power, as supporting always-on welfare cabins. Versatile, and efficient.
While the original setup in Slough required substantial diesel consumption to power the cranes and welfare cabins, the energy-efficient BESS units provide substantial reductions – saving 30,000 litres of diesel, equivalent to £44,000.
Over 80,000 tonnes of CO2 were avoided, making this a clean and future-facing construction site. With near-silent batteries, Select was able to provide next-generation power units to its customers, and deliver great results in this highly scrutinised industrial area.
