Melbourne, Victoria – 13th October 2026
Leading multi-modal operator ComfortDelGro Australia (CDC) is accelerating the transition to sustainable public transport in Victoria through a partnership with international fleet electrification specialist Zenobē to deliver Melbourne West’s largest electric bus depot.
CDC Victoria, a subsidiary of CDC, is partnering with Zenobē to develop Melbourne’s Truganina depot into a fully electrified bus depot, supporting the rollout of zero-emission buses across Melbourne’s rapidly growing western corridor. This project is part of CDC Victoria’s delivery of the Victorian Government’s Metropolitan Zero Emission Bus (ZEB) Franchises, following the award of three franchises to CDC Victoria in 2024.
Once complete, the Truganina depot will be equipped with charging infrastructure capable of supporting over 130 electric buses, with room for future growth. The depot will also deliver the first fleet of electric buses to Melbourne’s western growth corridor, providing cleaner, quieter and more sustainable public transport for local communities.
Building on decades of experience operating bus services in Melbourne’s west and a commitment to innovation that began with the introduction of hybrid buses to their fleet, this is a significant milestone in CDC’s zero emissions journey and represents the operator’s commitment to delivering more sustainable transport solutions.
The partnership builds on an established global relationship between CDC’s sister company, Metroline, and Zenobē in the United Kingdom. Zenobē has partnered with Metroline on the electrification of its London fleet and to date has delivered over 450 charging points across five depots, with the figure set to grow further in 2027.
“As a long-time operator in Melbourne’s west, we’re delighted to deliver greener, more sustainable public transport for customers and communities in this region. The electrification of our Truganina depot is a significant milestone that will support the rollout of electric buses, providing customers with cleaner, quieter and more sustainable journeys,” CDC Victoria CEO Jeff Wilson said.
“We’re also delighted to be working with Zenobē on this key project. Their global expertise in delivering fleet electrification, including their work with our sister company Metroline in the UK, will help accelerate our transition to a zero-emission fleet and support the delivery of Melbourne’s sustainable transport future.”
As CDC’s EV electrification expert, Zenobē has worked closely with CDC to design the Truganina depot’s charging infrastructure. This includes power and charging modelling to ensure the new grid connection was optimally sized to support future operational requirements. Beyond designing the depot, Zenobē is delivering the depot’s charging infrastructure, including the installation of a total of 65 dual-leads DC chargers, with provision for a further 20 charging points, as well as the associated civil and electrical works.
Zenobẽ Australia New Zealand Country Director Gareth Ridge said the project marked an important step in bringing proven large-scale fleet electrification capability into Australia’s public transport sector.
“Electrifying a bus depot at this scale is not simply a charging project, it is an infrastructure and operational feat. Truganina has been designed around both how CDC’s fleet will operate today and how it will grow over time, ensuring the power and charging infrastructure can support the transition to zero-emission buses at scale.
Zenobē has already delivered this kind of infrastructure alongside Metroline in the UK, and we’re excited to bring that experience to Melbourne. Together with CDC, we’re putting the infrastructure in place to make zero-emission public transport a reality for communities across Melbourne’s west.”
The electrification of Truganina depot forms part of CDC Victoria’s broader strategy to transition its operations towards zero-emission transport and supports the objectives of Victoria’s Metropolitan Zero-Emission Bus Program.
Working with the Victorian Government as part of the new franchises, services across Melbourne’s West have expanded, including an additional 470 weekly trips on CDC routes 170, 180, 190 and 192, including increased frequencies and longer operating hours. The initiative means passengers will benefit from a significant increase in electric buses on these routes and marks another significant milestone in CDC’s decarbonisation journey, while supporting the Victorian Government’s transition to a zero emission public bus fleet by 2035.
