Berlin, Germany – 5th February 2026

Zenobē, the leading owner and operator of grid-scale battery storage on the UK’s transmission network, today announces it is in the market to acquire battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Germany and grow its local team.

Backed by KKR and M&G Infracapital, two of the world’s leading infrastructure investors, and with 1.3GW of battery storage assets in operation or in construction, Zenobē is bringing its proven expertise and financial backing to the German market.

The German Government increasingly sees BESS, which are fast-to-deploy and can respond to the needs of the grid within milliseconds, as a crucial technology to support affordable and reliable low-carbon grids.

Zenobē has developed a portfolio of BESS sites specifically to respond to the strategic needs of the energy system, aiding the GB National Energy System Operator (NESO) to run an efficient and reliable grid that operates with a rapidly increasing amount of intermittent renewable power. Backed by a team of over 100 experts, today Zenobē’s sites are replacing traditional fossil assets across essential system services including frequency, reactive power, inertia, short-circuit support and are black start capable.

Fully integrated from project development to asset management, Zenobē has delivered major innovations including the first batteries in the world to provide Stability Services using batteries and grid-forming invertors to replace traditional fossil technology. This includes the 200MW / 400MWh Blackhillock BESS which went live in March 2025 and the 300MW / 600MWh Kilmarnock South BESS which went into operation in January 2026.

The company is now aiming to acquire at least 1GW / 4GWh of BESS projects in Germany by 2030, with a focus on transmission-level projects either close to or at ready-to-build stage. The business is actively engaged with offtakers for its projects.

Co-Founder and Director James Basden said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for Zenobē to bring its deep technical expertise and proven track record of developing and operating transmission-scale BESS to Germany to solve the challenges of achieving a zero carbon grid.

We are proud of the innovations the Zenobē team continually delivers to support the uptake of renewable power and look forward to continuing to do so in Germany. We Intend to lower the cost of electricity for consumers and increase security of supply in these uncertain geopolitical times”

James Basden (Co-Founder), Semih Oztreves (Chief Commercial Officer) and Hendrik Steen (Business Development Manager) will be at E-World in Essen from 10-11 February. To arrange a meeting contact the Zenobē team directly (contact@zenobe.com).
